This has to be the best shift dress I have ever made. After I purchased some lovely velvet, I wanted a simple design to let the velvet be the main attraction.
Before cutting into my gorgeous velvet I decided to try the pattern out on some fabric from my stash. I found this beautiful crepe I had forgotten I had. As I ironed and cut the fabric I came to realize this fabric was more special then I had realized. I can't believe this was stuck away in my stash FORGOTTEN!!!
the color is beautiful and the texture is so soft, I wish I knew more about it.
Now, let's talk about this pattern. The cut, sleeve details, and simple, back closure (no bulky zipper) provide a simple elegance that enhances my beautiful fabric.
With the perfect pattern, and lovely fabric I knew i couldnt slack on my sewing, I had to slow down and give attention to details.
I finished every seam, but the center back, with French seams. The center back I finished by folding under a 1/4 inch and sewing, after I zig zagged the raw edges.
I shortened the pattern length by 2 inches, not a good decision. With not enough length for a wide hem I finished the edge with a zigzag stitch, added some lovely, blue, hem tape and turned up the hem. I hand stitched the hem with blue, silk, thread. I applied the same technique to the sleeve.
Simplicity this is a great pattern and I have 2 more dresses planned.
You are very good ... And the final cut is awesome ! I am a beginner, so much far from those beautiful results !!
